Transitions abound between herringbone and peyote stitches, both flat and tubular, in the design of this necklace rope and focal. Registrants will learn how to make the herringbone-to-Cellini spiral-then-back again rope. A slight variation of these stitches will be covered to show how a striking stand-alone focal can also be made.

The elongated two-sided triangle with a peyote bail that adorns the Transitions rope can also be made as a stand-alone focal to string on strands of leather or chain.

Supply List will be available with registration

    Registration: $55 members / $85 non-members

Registration for members opens 11/5/2020, for non-members it opens 11/6/2020

     The Phoenix Pendant

SJBS is happy to present Susan Sassoon, architect, and beadwork designer/instructor in a virtual class this spring!

Susan's work has been featured in many publications including Bead and Button, Beadwork, Bead Style, and Bead & Jewelry Magazine. In 2019, she was selected by Beadwork Magazine to be Designer of the Year where she shared one of her designs in each of the six issues for the year. Her work has placed in many competitions, including five Fire Mountain Gems beading contests. She is a member of the Beadsmith Inspiration Squad where she creates designs and patterns using the newest beads on the market. Susan’s specialty is her very clear, well diagrammed and easy to understand pdf patterns.  She sells her patterns and her Zoom classes on her website: www.sosassybysusansassoon.com .

The Phoenix pendant is an advanced beading project inspired by the techniques of Contemporary Geometric Beadwork. Students should have some experience with peyote stitch. The class will teach how to make peyote warped squares, scalloped edges, odd count turns and a pear shaped bezel with a closed back. Instructions for a simple peyote chain are also included, although students may choose to use other chain designs. The pattern is written in step by step format, so the ability to read a peyote graph or word chart is not required.

In order to cover the more difficult parts of the pattern during class time, it is recommended that students use the pattern, that will be emailed in advance of the class, to begin beading the bail.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to advanced. Proficient with peyote stitch.

KITS:$85 + applicable tax/shipping. Kits include all beads for the pendant except needle and thread. Three (3) Kit Colorways: Blue/Gold; Cranberry/Rose; Turquoise/Silver. Kit purchase is optional for class registrants only must be made at least 3 weeks prior to the class to provide ample shipping time. Ordering info will be noted in the Supply List which is included with registrants’ Confirmation email.

SUPPLY LIST: Paid registrants will receive a Supply List

TRUNK SHOW: Susan will offer students a 20% discount on kits and patterns for purchases made during the class.

    Instructor Bio:

Georgia was born and raised in Hainesport, NJ.  She has been beading for over 20 years. Her mother, Norma, was an antique dealer who sold vintage jewelry.  Georgia was always attracted to rhinestone pins and her grandmother, mother and aunts have passed down many pins to her over the years. She always wanted to display them and not just hide them in a jewelry box.  She started to make themed shadow boxes for herself and gifts for family members and close friends.  They bring back wonderful memories and make such beautiful family treasures.
