The South Jersey Bead Society prides itself on offering a wide variety of learning experiences to our membership. Our monthly meetings begin with a brief interactive business update followed by any combination of the following: a free class, a trunk show, a demonstration, a lecture, etc. While our emphasis is on beadweaving, we do provide learning opportunities that delve into metal, polymer clay, and wire working.
Throughout the year, we offer several weekend workshops. Artists and authors from around the country are invited to come and teach our members the latest techniques. We also draw from the wealth of talent within our membership to teach basic and intermediate classes.
The Annual Bead Retreat is great fun! Every year, we invite a renowned national instructor to conduct a weekend of beading, and beading, and more beading! It is a weekend where we get to know each other and share our passion for beading!!
In order to accomplish our mission of educating the public about beading, we have several community outreach programs. One example of this effort is our work at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden, NJ. Our work there involves the sharing of time and talents by our members who work with the parents of sick children and their relatives. Among its many services, the Ronald McDonald house provides a place to stay for the families of seriously ill and traumatized children who are undergoing medical treatment. Member volunteers offer hope, laughter, and inspiration to the sick children and their families through the construction of simple beading projects.
